Teabagging Innuendo

Members of the Tea Party Patriots held protests outside CNN stations here in Atlanta and in Chicago yesterday, and again in Atlanta today.

Were they protesting taxes? Nope.

Were they protesting tea? Nope.

They were protesting CNN’s use of sexual innuendo regarding the tea parties of April 15, 2009:

The protests are largely in response to CNN’s use of sexual innuendo in its coverage of the nationwide Tax Day Tea Parties, where 1.2 million U.S. citizens gathered across states to protest outrageous government spending. CNN journalists repeatedly used the word “teabagging” in a sexual manner when reporting about the rallies.

Just a quick note to any teabaggers out there: If you didn’t want people to refer to your little tea parties with sexual innuendo, then you probably shouldn’t have used a term that has a sexual meaning. Simple logic. I mean, if some group decided to refer to themselves as “snowblowers” or “pearl necklaces”, the same thing would have happened. It’s not political, and it’s not hate speech — it’s simply a few journalists pointing out the irony that a bunch of righties decided to use a sexual term to refer to themselves. It’s funny. Deal with it.
